I come from a working-class background. I was born and brought up in Sheffield where I went to a local comprehensive school and I was fortunate enough to win a place at Cambridge. After leaving university I set up a small surveying company with my husband.
When our company was invited to merge with a larger organisation, I took the opportunity to take my first step into politics by working in an MP's constituency office. Through my work for an MP I have helped people with a very wide range of issues, including benefits, education, disability, housing, crime, social care and public transport.
I believe that I have developed skills and knowledge which would enable me to serve the people of Nottingham East effectively at both a Parliamentary and local level.
I have three children and I have taken an active role in my community as a volunteer in various capacities. I have run parent and toddler groups, served as a primary school governor and have been a Beaver Scout leader. I am passionate about ensuring all our children and young people are able to make the most of their talents through access to a good education and opportunities to contribute to their community.
First and foremost, I am a democrat, I voted remain in the EU referendum and regardless of that I believe it is our duty to implement the will of the British people.
If elected as your representative, I pledge to back Boris’s deal to leave the EU. This will enable us to move past the stifling indecision which is paralysing our politics and focus on to the issues that really matter to local people.
As well as our commitment to provide more Police and investment in the NHS, I believe that my party’s pledge to ‘level up’ our regions will bring real benefits to Nottingham East. This will create a platform for economic growth outside London by Government investing effectively in education, technology and infrastructure.
